Caught in the act: Police inspector in cell over marked N60,000 bribe

A Police Inspector who has been using the name of Area Commander to siphon a hotelier in Lagos has been arrested by Detectives attached to the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department, (FCIID), Alagbon Lagos.

National Daily gathered that Inspector Okoi Etim, before his arrest was attached to Area K Command Badagry, Lagos.

It was learnt that the officer allegedly lied to some owners of hotel around Badagry area that his Area Commander, ACP Hope Okafor sent him to them through which he has been extorting each of them N60,000 to secure the area where they are domicile peacefully.

Nemesis caught up with him as the hotel association realised that the Area Commander was unaware of his antics and extortive tendencies and decided to give him marked currency notes.

The operation that led to his arrest, it was gathered was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, General Investigation, Mr Abutu Yaro, who deployed his team to the area to trap Etim following a petition to the Deputy Inspector General of Police DIG, in Abuja over Etim’s conduct in Badagry area.

National Daily gathered that the petitioner alleged that Etim and his team have been extorting the hoteliers for the past six years by intimidating and harassing the hoteliers in the area .

Our reporter learnt that every Friday Inspector Etim would go from one hotel owner to another collecting between N10,000 – N15,000 before he  imposed N60,000 on each of the hoteliers without the knowledge of the Area Commander.

Residents expressed happiness for  new the Commander who just resumed office barely two months ago for making remarkable changes and had successfully dismantled all the illegal road blocks along Badagry expressway now called ECOWAS Road.
