Fierce military, insurgents battle leaves 22 terrorists, four soldiers dead

It was a black Sunday as a three-wave attack by Boko Haram insurgents on military location at Logomani, along Dikwa-Gambarou road, Borno State, left 26 people dead.

The attack which took place about 1.00am on Sunday, 25th September 2016, by some suspected remnants of Boko Haram fighters were said to have deployed 36 Hand Grenades and Rocket Propelled Launchers against the troops in one of the fiercest battle in recent times.

Characteristically, the troops fought back and repelled them in a battle that lasted for about an hour.

At the end of the fierce encounter, 22 Boko Haram fighters died while four soldiers were killed and two injured as well as their rifles declared missing.

Meanwhile, the military recovered assorted weapons from the terrorists which included two AK-47 Rifles, one Fabrique Nationale  Rifle, one G3 Rifle and 36 Hand grenades.

Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director Army Public Relations said that the wounded soldiers have been evacuated to a military medical facility were they are currently undergoing treatment.

He added that despite today’s attack, the military would not be deterred in its operation to clear the remnants. He further stated that the location has been reinforced and replenished for greater efficiency.
