Lagos Lawmaker doles out .3m to Ajah Model College, advocates support for riverine education

The Lagos State House of Assembly has canvassed for assistance from wealthy public spirited corporate bodies and private organizations in the state to help government bolster educational advancement in the riverine areas of the state,owing to the enormity of the task.

This appeal was sequel to an unscheduled visit made by the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Hon Lanre Ogunyemi and his committee members to Lagos State Model College, Ajah.

Ogunyemi the Lagos Lawmaker representing Ojo II constituency in the state Assembly, while commending the state government for providing enabling environment that consequently paved way for seamless resumption of the new academic session in the state public schools,noted that the big private organizations should assist government in the delivery of qualitative education for especially schools in the riverine areas.

Ogunyemi stated that with what he and his colleagues have seen, it was obvious that the schools, teachers and pupils are ready for the new academic session, enhanced by the provision of modern infrastructure by the state government.

Hon. Ogunyemi who made donation of N300,000 to the school on behalf of his daughter, Dr. Olubukola Ogunyemi a student of the school urging private organisations in the state to support the government on education.

“We are calling on more corporate organizations and wealthy individuals to support the government on education, and look into our riverine areas to support education there,” he said noting further that government cannot achieve the desired result alone without cooperation and support of all.

The lawmaker stated that with what he and his colleagues have seen during the surprise visit, they are impressed and happy that the school, the pupils and the teachers are ready and well prepared for the new academic session.

“Despite coming early unannounced, we met the students and teachers on ground, a clear indication of their readiness for the new academic session,” Ogunyemi said.

He commended the state government for its efforts at developing the education sector in the state, saying the present state government has impacted the sector positively in the state through provision of modern infrastructure and incentives for teachers.
