Traditional ruler nab over murder of police inspector

Detective Policemen attached to the Inspector General of police Intelligence Response Team and detectives of the Federal Special Anti- Robbery Squad FSARS Lagos state police command have arrested the traditional ruler (Baale) of the Oshoroko community in the Ibeju – Lekki area of Lagos state Chief Olusegun Oyiri over the murder of a police Inspector Musa Sunday attached to the FSARS Lagos state  police command.
Inspector Sunday was  beaten to death by suspected villagers of Oshoroko community  last year where he was deployed to by the police authority to lead a team to arrest suspected kidnappers in the Epe area and environs.
Eye witnesses said Inspector Sunday was abducted and killed by the villagers when he attempted to rescue a victim Michael Amodemaja who was allegedly beaten up by suspected  Oshoroko villagers who had  come out to fight for the Oba of Ibeju Lekki Oba Odubatun against the Amodemaja family over parcels of land in Ibeju- Lekki .
It was gathered that the Inspector General of Police IGP Ibrahim Idris ordered the combined police team to stormed the community to arrest Chief Oyiri and other accomplices in the murder of the Inspector Sunday.
The source said the policemen however had a tough time arresting Chief Oyiri as the villagers stood in the way to resist his arrest.
A source said, ” IGP Ibrahim Idris ordered the IRT team and other policemen in the operation to ensure that they arrest the Baale Oyiri because suspects arrested fingered him in Inspector Sunday’s murder.’
Four of Chief Oyiri’s sons were alleged to have participated in hacking down the late Inspector Sunday. They have gone into hiding. Chief Oyiri was the one that brought Inspector Sunday’s gun to the Lagos state Commissioner of Police Mr. Fatia Owoseni after he was murdered and the one that showed policemen the grave where Inspector Sunday was buried”.
When the police went to arrest him following the confession of some suspects arrested in connection with the murder, the villagers resisted the policemen but the policemen handled them professionally and they effected Chief Oyiri’s arrest”.
National Daily gathered that Chief Oyiri however called a retinue of lawyers to defend him as he denied any involvement in the murder of Inspector Sunday adding that he did not participate in the killing and did not permit any villager to kill Inspector Sunday as he further explained that he heard about the killing after the villagers had murdered him.
The source said ” Chief Oyiri said he reported the killing of the Inspector Sunday to Oba Odubatun, the Oba of Ibeju Lekki and he told him that they will report the case at Zone 2 command and nothing will happen and that is why he resisted when the IRT team tried to arrest him”.
Jonathan ,the brother of late Inspector Sunday said,  “The arrest  is a welcome development and it is  the desire of the family, from inception the family were intimated that the baale was involved and actually gave the order for him to be killed because they felt my brother was in support of the other faction and also thinking that  he was on an illegal duty on. We trust that the police will not compromise as we want justice “.
Reacting to the arrest , the Lagos state police  command spokesperson Olarinde Famous – Cole said. ” I know we have some suspects arrested over the killing of the Inspector.
