WizKid: Grown above local collaboration

THE right axiom to explain the situation of Wizkid is not ‘slow and steady’ it’s more like fast and furious. Wizkid is getting larger by the times. First he grew out of his first boss, Banky W. Now he is growing rapidly above his contemporaries.

With Wizkid’s continuous rise on the world stage, the demands for his vocal assistance can only get higher.

It is not every time an African artiste gets so big and in-demand, that such person starts to turn down several offers to collaborate with other willing acts.

That is the story of Nigeria’s own, Ayodeji Balogun at the moment.

Starboy who, according to a Rwandan publication, The New Times, staged an epic performance at the Mutzig Beer Fest in Kigali last month, has been in demand so much, he is delicately choosing who to work with.

In fact, the publication gave instances when ‘desperate’ local acts, Urban Boyz and Assinah along with their managers at separate times, laid siege at the hotel Wizkid was lodged with the hopes of getting the singer to approve of a collaboration, all to no avail.

He was ultimately reported as not being ‘interested in any collaboration with local artistes.’
Wizkid continues his foothold on the continent

This speaks volume of Wizkid’s status as Africa’s biggest act at the moment, as he now rubs shoulders with some of the world’s biggest stars; Drake, Chris Brown, Trey Songz to name a few.

Wizkid, who has grown in leaps and bounds since making his grand entry on the charts in 2010, ‘I charge N10million for collaboration but I don’t charge the people I love. (But) I don’t pay for collaborations because I am confident of myself,’ and it puts into perspective what his charges are now.

The Nigerian superstar will continue his foothold on the continent by gracing the stage in Kampala, Uganda, in a show dubbed ‘Wizkid Live in Concert’ in December, and the demands for his vocal assistance can only get higher.
