Extortion: 14 LASTMA Officers Face Disciplinary Panel

In a significant development for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), a total of fourteen officers finds themselves in hot water as they prepare to face a disciplinary panel. The charges against them include allegations of extortion and high-handed behavior, infractions that directly contravene the rules and regulations governing the state.

This fourteen personnel whom were apprehended at different locations across Lagos State while allegedly extorting money from motorists.

Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, confirmed this development. According to Taofiq, the affected officers have undergone thorough investigations to ascertain the veracity of the allegations against them. Having established the credibility of the accusations, the cases will now be presented before the Government Disciplinary Committee, known as the Personnel Management Board (PMB) Discipline. This committee is responsible for adjudicating disciplinary cases involving government employees, and it will evaluate the cases in accordance with the Public Service Rules.

The General Manager of LASTMA Mr. Bolaji Oreagba while commenting on the matter ,said the Agency would continue to offer stiff and severe punishment on Officers and men in its effort to weed out the few bad elements tarnishing its image.

“We thereby called on residents especially the motoring public to support us by promptly reporting any errant Officers at the nearest LASTMA offices or use any of the Agency’s complaints hotlines with proof of evidence.”

The General Manager in his remark also advised all Officers of the Agency to always carry out their duties without fear or favour in accordance with the stipulated laws guiding the authority as any operative caught in the process of bringing the Agency or the Government into disrepute shall equally face the consequence

The Lagos State government has the responsibility to ensure that its law enforcement personnel operate with integrity, transparency, and professionalism.
