No fewer than 150 people have been killed after an earthquake struck Jajarkot district of Nepal on Friday, November 3.

The earthquake, which occurred at 11:47 p.m. (1802 GMT) with a magnitude 6.4, also left many inj¥red and many houses destroyed.

According to BBC, strong tremors were felt far away in the Nepalese capital and in cities in neighbouring India, including Delhi.

Officials feared the death toll could rise as they had not been able to establish contact in the hilly area near the epicentre, some 500 km (300 miles) west of the capital Kathmandu, where tremors were also felt. The district has a population of 190,000 with villages scattered in remote hills.

Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, arrived in the affected region on Saturday, after expressing his “deep sorrow” at the loss of life and property wrought by the quake, on social media platform X.
