2019: Mama Taraba picks UDP governorship ticket

Mama Taraba, Aisha Alhassan, former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, who resigned her cabinet appointment and All Progressives Congress, APC, membership, on Wednesday, won the governorship primary election of United Democratic Party, UDP, to emerge the party’s candidate in the 2019 general election in Taraba State.

National Daily learnt that UDP National Chairman, Chief Godwin Okoye, supervised the primary election was held at Shield Hotel, Jalingo, where Alhassan was unanimously endorsed by the 224 delegates from the 16 local government areas of the state.

AbdulRazak Gidado, was said to have withdrawn from the race to step down for Alhassan after her defection from the APC to UDP.

The 224 delegates were said to have voted to ratify the unanimous endorsement of Alhassan as UDP 2019 governorship candidate.

The former Minister had declared: “I assure you that I will work round the clock to ensure that our enemies are put to shame by winning the governorship election in Taraba in 2019.”

Alhassan appealed to Taraba people to support the UDP, “because it is a party with great potential for the development of the state.”
