2019 tension in Presidency: Osinbajo holds emergency meeting with Senate Majority Leader

The Presidency has been restless since the National Assembly on July 22, 2018, proceeded on recess till September 25, 2018, after the Police assault on the leaders of the federal legislature. The recess which commenced ahead of the legislature’s timetable put several government plans on hold. For instance the election budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could not be considered. The Presidency had accordingly, appealed that the vacation of the lawmakers may shut down governance in the country.

APC lawmakers in the trauma of the July 22 mass defection of some members had threatened to illegally re-open the National Assembly but their threats were bluffed by some PDP senators.

The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, hosted the Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan, to a meeting closed door in Abuja, on Monday.

National Daily gathered that the meeting commenced at about 2.00p.m immediately Lawal and It Enang, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), arrived the Acting President’s office.

The meeting was said to be a continuation of the deliberations on the political misfortune the ruling party is experiencing in the National Assembly which include the loss of 42 lawmakers in the two chambers. They were also said to have also touched on the preparations to receive Senate minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, into the party on Wednesday.

The meeting further looked at the continued vacation of lawmakers in the National Assembly and the urgent need to re-open the federal legislature.
