The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has cautioned kicked against parties presenting candidates of the same faith in the 2023 presidential election.
The religious body must have been following speculations of the major presidential aspirants pairing, including a Tinubu –Ganduje ticket, Tinubu-Zulum ticket, or any of sorts.
CAN’s President Samson Ayokunle spoke on Thursday when the association’s leadership met with Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege at the National Assembly.
Ayokunle told politicians not to heat up the polity with utterances as campaigns commence.
“We urge that a balance of both religious practitioners be considered. We don’t want Christian/Christian ticket nor Muslim/Muslim ticket”, he said.
The call came days after MURIC, an Islamic rights organisations, called on the Yoruba Muslims to not support a Christian presidential caudate in the coming election.
MURIC executive director Ishaq Akinola said Yoruba Muslims have suffered for too long.
Many political watchers have said religion is one of the tools elite use to divide Nigeria and keep the citizens in servitude.
