Ahead of the 2023 general elections, many prominent political stalwarts are already engaging one another, in the course of making their political interests prevalent in the forthcoming election. However, the situation in the Southeastern part of Nigeria may, distinctly, stand out.

Considerably, the political atmosphere of a geopolitical zone, in every election year, is often determined by the relationship between major political gladiators in the ruling and those in the opposition parties across the states that made up the geopolitical zone. Senators, Federal House of Representatives members and the Executive Governors of the states may suit in, as the best instances of the political gladiators in this scenario.

In the light of this, the political atmosphere of Abia State, Anambra State, Imo State, Ebonyi State and Enugu State may remain tough, during the build-up to the 2023 general elections. How do I mean?

I mean for instance, in Abia State, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and the Executive Governor of his state, Okezie Ikpeazu may slug it out in the course of determining who will succeed the governor in 2023. Indications have shown that Senator Abaribe would be vying for the seat of the Executive Governor of Abia State in 2023, but the choice of Ikpeazu may pose threat at his chances.

Looking at what the political future may hold for the good people of Anambra State, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah may, considerably, find it difficult to earn a return because he is representing the Senatorial District if the incoming Governor of the state, Prof. Charles Soludo, whose party (All Progressives Grand Alliance – APGA) may be considered to have higher chances of winning the Senatorial District if we are to go by the results of the recent election in the state.

In Enugu State, Senator Chukwuma Utazi may, sincerely, have a political show-off with his state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who hails from the same Senatorial District that Utazi represents and he is being tipped to replace Senator Utazi, in 2023.

Convincingly, Ebonyi State is going to be one of the most sensitive states, in Southeast as three senators from the stare may be at loggerheads with the governor, David Umahi. Though a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Umahi is expected to give the three senators who are PDP members a tough battle.

In Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, who could be believed to have lost out in the control of the state structure of APC may not be re-elected for another term in the senate. This is because of the sour political relationship between him and the Governor of the State, Hope Uzodinma.
