A Christian group under the aegis of Northern Nigeria Christian (CNNC), has said Northern Nigeria is in the verge of becoming the minority in subsequent elections beginning from 2023.

CNNC said given the prevalent security challenges in Northern part of the country where Christians and other tribes not perceived as northern Muslims have been consciously targeted and killed, hence they have renewed a new quest of identity away from the North.

Chairman of the Christian Group, Engr. Daniel Kadzai, was responding to the spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed on his statement on Channels Television, where he vowed that the North will continue leading Nigeria, arguing that the region has the majority to produce the next president through the ballot.

According to Kadzai, “The North can be fractured into many ethnic groups. The North- central are even saying that they are not part of the North and are pushing to be recognise as the Middle-belt region.

“Also Hausa Christians in the North does not want to align with the Fulani. So who are they majority and which majority is Baba-Ahmed referring to?”, Kadzai queried.

Our correspondent reports that with the 2023 presidential polls in view, leaders and politicians of southern extraction have been clamoring for a shift in power, arguing that the region must provide the nation’s next leader.

But NEF, in its most recent submission on the nation’s polity, rejected the push to have Nigeria’s next president come from the southern region.
