A total of 28 Houthi rebels were killed on Tuesday in fighting with the Yemeni army in Yemen’s northwestern province of Hajjah, state Saba news agency reported.

The fighting in al-Bidah area of Abs district also destroyed several rebels’ military vehicles, Saba added, without providing further details.

Meanwhile, the Houthi group has made no comment.

On Friday, the Yemeni army announced a large-scale military offensive in Hajjah.

The army recaptured several areas in the districts of Abs and Mustaba in the past four days as the battles were going on in several other districts in the province.

Yemen has been mired in a civil war since late 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthis seized control of several northern Yemeni provinces.

The Houthis then forced the internationally-recognised government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi out of the capital Sanaa.

The Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in the Yemeni conflict in 2015 to support Hadi’s government.
