Blasphemy: Sultanate Council demands prosecution of killers of student in Sokoto

The Sultanate Council in Sokoto on Thursday condemned the killing of a female student at the Shehu Shagari College of Education on allegation of blasphemy. The Sultanate in a statement by Council Secretary, Sa’idu Muhammadu Maccido, demanded the security agencies to ensure that justice is done on the killing by extremists. The council appealed for calm, re-emphasizing the need for peaceful co–existence among Nigerian citizens.

Sa’idu Muhammadu Maccido, in the statement declared: “The Sultanate Council condemned the incident in its totality and has urged the security agencies to bring perpetrators of the unjustifiable incident to justice.

“The Sultanate Council has urged all to remain calm and ensure peaceful co-existence among all people of the State and nation.”

The Sokoto State Police Command had narrated that Deborah Samuel, a level-two student, was accused of making a social media post that blasphemed the holy prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The police disclosed that Muslim students violently dragged the deceased out of security custody of  the school authorities, killed and burnt her.
