Edo 2024: Idahosa writes INEC, claiming APC candidacy
One of the aspirants for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has written a letter to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmud Yakubu, claiming the candidacy of the APC for the governorship poll in the state.
In a letter dated March 4th, 2024, signed by his counsel, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), marked WOC/ABJ/VOL.01/074/2024, to the INEC Chairman, Idahosa urged the commission to accept only his name as the APC candidate in Edo State that emerged from the primary election that “he won”.
He noted that he has filed a suit (Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/274/2024) against Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the APC, and INEC, claiming to be the APC candidate. He told INEC to take cognizance of the legal action.
Idahosa, in the suit, claimed he won the APC primary election monitored by INEC on February 17, 2024, and was officially declared the winner. He argued that the supplementary election mandated by the APC national leadership lacked justification, as no explanation was provided for their directive.
Idahosa also argued that the repeat election conducted on February 20th was not a separate event, but rather an extension of the February 17th proceedings. He, therefore, insisted that the result of the February 17th primary election should not be ignored.
