Oyedepo hails Covenant University’s impact as 339 first-class graduates emerge

At the 19th convocation ceremony of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, the institution once again solidified its place among Africa’s leading educational establishments.

The university announced that 339 students earned First-Class honors, underscoring its commitment to academic excellence and discipline.

For Bishop (Dr.) David Oyedepo, the Chancellor and visionary behind the institution, this moment marked yet another testament to the university’s founding mission—to deliver a quality, transformative education.

Speaking to the audience at the event, Dr. Oyedepo reflected on Covenant University’s early days and the bold ambition that drove its creation.

“The passion for the University came alive to provide an alternative education in terms of quality, rescuing young individuals from lifelong crises,” he said.

His words captured the essence of what the university stands for: a solution to the declining moral and educational standards affecting youth in Nigeria and beyond.

Dr. Oyedepo was clear in his vision from the beginning—Covenant University was destined for greatness.

“There was an understanding that Covenant University was heading to become one of the best in the world. No wonder it has been an award-winning university almost since its inception,” he added.

In a nation grappling with various challenges, Dr. Oyedepo emphasized that Covenant University is not just focused on academic excellence but also on cultivating values and integrity among its students.

The convocation ceremony celebrated a total of 1,607 graduates, with 339 receiving First-Class honors, 762 earning Second-Class Upper, 330 attaining Second-Class Lower, and 25 securing Third-Class degrees.

Another 151 graduates were recognized from the university’s postgraduate programs. The standout among them was Sanni Rilwan Oludamilere, a graduate of Industrial Mathematics, who emerged as the Best Overall Student with an impressive 4.99 CGPA.

Dr. Oyedepo’s sentiments were echoed by the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Bishop David Abioye, who urged the graduates to embrace patience as they transition into the world beyond university.

He described patience as essential for navigating life’s challenges and urged the new graduates to apply their education to become solutions in their communities.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo also expressed his pride in the achievements of the graduating class.
