The Abia State chapter of the Obidient Movement, a political support group loyal to former presidential candidate Peter Obi, has warned former governors of the state against attempts to truncate Governor Alex Otti’s second-term ambition.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Umuahia, the group accused the former governors of acting out of selfish interests, blaming them for leaving the state in a “sorry state” before the Otti administration began efforts at recovery.
The Obidients, who claim to have played a key role in Otti’s 2023 electoral victory, vowed to resist any action that seeks to undermine the ongoing transformation in Abia.
Speaking on behalf of the group, spokesperson Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili stated the opposition by former governors is purely self-serving and lacks public support. He urged Abians, civil society organizations, and the media to reject blackmail and support efforts to rebuild the state.
While noting that members of the movement had not been integrated into Otti’s administration, Obiesili affirmed their continued backing as long as the governor maintains good governance.
The group also urged Governor Otti to consider aligning with Peter Obi in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections to form a united political front.
Other Obidient Movement members at the briefing included Prince Solomon, Elder Bethel Nwokoma, Barrister Chinedum Ogbonnaya, Chukwuebuka Ezennaka, and Elder Iheanyi Ezengwa.
