Bangladesh has rejected the U.S. government request to shelter asylum seekers from Afghanistan amidst escalating humanitarian crisis the Taliban take-over caused.
Bangladeshi Foreign Minister, AK Abdul Momen said the Afghan people should take responsibility for supporting for the U.S.-led entities Afghanistan.
“We are already in trouble, hosting 1.1 million refugees from Myanmar,’’ he said August 16.
The ministry urged all stakeholders in Afghanistan to maintain peace, calm and ensure safety and security of all, including foreign nationals.
Bangladesh was carefully observing the fast evolving situation in Afghanistan, which, Dhaka believed, might have an impact on the region and beyond, the ministry added.
“Bangladesh would be happy to continue to work with the people of Afghanistan and the international community for Afghanistan’s socio-economic development, ” the statement said.
