AGF Lateef Fagbemi directs transfer of case files for detained ‘Endbadgovernance’ protesterThe Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has taken decisive action regarding the case of the detained ‘Endbadgovernance’ protesters by directing that their case files be transferred to his office.
This announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.
Fagbemi highlighted that he has been monitoring the legal proceedings involving those arrested during the violent protests against governmental practices, noting that the police have charged these individuals with various offenses, including treason.
He acknowledged that the court has subsequently remanded the defendants in detention facilities and set the next hearing for January.

While Fagbemi emphasized that he does not possess the authority to alter the court’s decision regarding the remand of the defendants or the scheduled adjournment, he expressed the necessity for his office to review certain aspects of the case.
This review will allow him to make an informed decision moving forward.
To facilitate this process, Fagbemi has instructed the Nigeria Police to transfer the relevant case file to his office and ensure it is handed over to the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF) by Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Additionally, he has called on the DPPF to take immediate steps to petition the court for an earlier date for the proceedings, underscoring the urgency of the matter.
