President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has returned to the country following a brief vacation in London, dismissing rumours circulating on social media that he had been hospitalised abroad.

Akpabio arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 4:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, looking refreshed and in high spirits.

He was received at the Presidential Wing by a delegation of senators, aides, and supporters from different walks of life.

His return put to rest speculation from some online platforms that he was critically ill and receiving medical attention in the United Kingdom.

Addressing journalists at the airport, the Senate President described the reports as false and mischievous.

“There’s nothing like that. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” Akpabio clarified.

The Senate President had earlier participated in the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland, between July 29 and 31. He noted that his brief stay in London was to unwind after what he described as a “hectic legislative year.”

Looking ahead, Akpabio assured Nigerians that the National Assembly, under his leadership, would resume with renewed energy to deliver on its mandate.

He pledged more robust legislative engagements and stronger collaborations with the executive and judiciary to deepen democratic governance.

The Senate President also defended the size of the Nigerian delegation at the IPU Conference, stressing that the country’s participation was necessary to ensure that Nigeria remained an active voice in global parliamentary discourse.

He assured that the engagements in Geneva would yield tangible benefits for the country’s democratic and governance processes.
