The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, arriving Awka, Anambra State, through Enugu, played down the security crisis and threats in Anambra to assert that all is set for the November 6 governorship election in the state. Prof. Yakubu reassured Nigerians that the commission is prepared to conduct a free, fair and credible election governorship poll in Anambra State on Saturday, November 6.
Yakubu had a brief meeting with the Security chiefs, INEC management and staff on his arrival in Awka in preparation for all stakeholders meeting on Wednesday.
At the security meeting, the Police Commissioner of the Anambra State Police Command, Echeng Echeng, briefed the INEC management on the security preparedness. He disclosed that the police will collaborate with other security agencies to lock down entries and exit routes of Anambra State to guarantee adequate protection for both the electorate and INEC officials for peaceful conduct of the election.
