Ambazonia’s interim President (Dr.) Sam Sako Ikome has declared he is opposed to secession and his republice will never endorse a Biafra republic or sympathise with IPOB and its leader Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB and other Biafra secessionist groups have been claiming alliance and territory to wage war against Nigeria in some part of Cameroon bordering on eastern states and the south-south.

Ikome stated his denunciation during a virtual briefing on the weekend.

But he pleaded with the Nigerian government to treat Southern Cameroonians taking refuge in Nigeria kindly.

“The government of Southern Cameroon is an interim government. We have no alliance with Nnamdi Kanu or IPOB.  We have not and we will not endorse Biafra, though they have a right to self-determination. We have over 200 refugees in Nigeria,’ he said.

“Presently in the struggle, 30,000 have died with 1.5million displaced. As I speak, every minute, at least 10 people are slaughtered. They have burned 500 plots of our villages and settlement.

“Nigerians should please continue to treat our people with love and care. They are not a threat to Nigeria. We are neighbours since 1960. We are not seceding. We are not secessionists. Ours is akin to the case of Gambia and Senegal. We want our independence restored.

According to him, Ambazonia used to be part of Nigeria in 1953.

“We had part of our education in Nigeria; in fact we were part of the government of Enugu. By 1954, we had our first Premier in Mgboya.

“By 1960, the United Nations was preparing this territory for independence and at a plebiscite of to either join Cameroon or Nigeria, we overwhelmingly voted to join the French Cameroon. However, the treaty of the union was not signed.”

Ikome  thanked the governors of Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Taraba states for their kind gesture towards his people.
