The Anambra State Government has awarded contracts totaling about N3.6 billion for various infrastructural projects, including road construction, power supply, and upgrades to schools and other public facilities.
According to a press statement released on Friday by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, these projects and other significant decisions were made during the 17th Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting held at the “Light House” in Awka on Monday, July 30, 2025.
Among the key decisions reached, the council approved the restoration of the name of a street, Abakaliki Street, which was renamed Club Road in 2018 by the previous administration.
Mefor stated that the restoration was undertaken to correct “a historic mistake” and to restore the street’s historical significance.
The government also used the occasion to reiterate the “oneness of the Igbo ethnic group,” viewing states in the zone as “mere administrative conveniences and not identities.”
The council also received a report that the power project for the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City is nearing completion.
Mefor noted that this development signals a major first step toward activating the Anambra Industrial Park, making it ready for investors.
The approved projects and their contract sums are as follows:
- Road Construction: The construction of the 3.2km Nri-Agbanagbo-Nimo Road was awarded to Lebtech Construction at a cost of N1.65 billion.
- Education: A contract for a one-story student center at Nwafor Orizu College of Education was awarded to Ozoh United Ventures Nig Ltd for N596,759,814.56.
