Students writing WAEC will be sitting for English Language on September 13—same day IPOB’s sit-at-home order, for the fourth time, will be in force across the southeast.
Many are worried.
Governors in the southeast states have been assuring citizens to disregard the outlawed group’s order, which it has even cancelled.
But either out of fear or sympathy for IPOB and its detained leader Nnamdi Kanu, the citizens have been keeping back at home Mondays, leaving banks and other businesses shuttered.
The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders, (COSEYL) said the actions by IPOB are detrimental to the well-being of innocent civilians.
According to COSEYL President Goodluck Ibem, and Secretary Kanice Igwe, WAEC candidates in the region are now at risk.
“Our secondary school students sitting for WAEC examinations will be writing English Language on September 13 and we cannot afford to have them miss the paper,” a statement signed by the two said.
”Asking these students to sit-at-home on Monday when others will be writing the same examination is the worst disservice anyone can do to our students.”
IPOB is fighting to break Biafra away from Nigeria, and it’s been attacking government institutions, including police and military formations.
