Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is unsettled as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections, despite the party’s dominance across the country.

Melaye, in a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, criticised the APC’s stance on the electronic transmission of election results, describing it as contradictory and indicative of anxiety within the ruling party.

The former lawmaker pointed out that while the APC currently controls 31 state governments, it has continued to resist moves to enshrine real-time electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act.

“APC is doing e-registration for members, but doesn’t want e-transmission of results. With 31 governors, dem still dey fear,” Melaye wrote.

His remarks appear to reference the party’s ongoing internal digital membership registration drive, which he contrasted with its perceived reluctance to adopt technological reforms aimed at enhancing electoral transparency.

Melaye further suggested that the Senate’s reported unwillingness to back proposed amendments to the Electoral Act allowing full electronic transmission of results signals deeper internal challenges within the ruling party.

According to him, the development reflects instability and a lack of confidence ahead of the next electoral cycle.

“Implosion is imminent and explosion is guaranteed. End of the road. Votes must count,” he added, stressing the importance of safeguarding electoral integrity.

The comments come amid growing demonstrations in Abuja, where protesters have criticised the Senate for declining to amend the Electoral Act to explicitly provide for real-time electronic transmission of election results.

Advocates of electoral reform argue that electronic transmission would reduce incidents of manipulation, enhance transparency, and strengthen public trust in the electoral process. However, critics have raised concerns over logistics, infrastructure readiness, and potential technical vulnerabilities.

As political activities gradually build toward 2027, debates over electoral reforms are expected to intensify, with stakeholders across party lines weighing in on the balance between technological innovation and institutional preparedness.

Neither the APC nor Senate leadership had issued an official response to Melaye’s claims as of press time.
