The African Public Relations Association (APRA) has expressed its solidarity with the government and people of Nigeria as protests over the rising cost of living continue into their second day.

In a statement, APRA urged all parties involved to engage in sincere and ongoing dialogue to swiftly address the underlying causes of the unrest.

Highlighting the importance of civil liberties and democratic practices, APRA commended the Nigerian government for its commitment to protecting the right to protest.

The association also acknowledged efforts by authorities to prevent further escalation of the situation.

However, APRA voiced deep concern over reports of fatalities, including civilians and security personnel, as well as injuries, looting, and significant damage to both public and private property.

“Key infrastructure, such as telecommunications and food processing facilities, has also been affected.

“APRA’s commitment to Africa’s prosperity compels us to condemn the loss of life, violence, and destruction of property that undermine the well-being of the people,” the association stated.

APRA called on all parties—both state and non-state actors—to halt hostilities and focus on constructive dialogue. The association urged the Nigerian government and regional authorities to work closely with all stakeholders to restore peace and stability.

Recognizing Nigeria’s crucial role in Africa’s broader vision for progress and development, APRA extended its condolences to families who have lost loved ones and expressed its sympathies to those injured in the protests.
