Ekiti PDP Gov. Ayo Fayose Tuesday visited his APC counter Rauf Aregbesola in Osogbo to seek stronger ties among the Yoruba in spite of their political leanings, while Aregbesola told him the reality of the PDP death.
There were rumours that Fayose, the bastion of the opposition in the southwest, came with a peace offering for President Muhammadu Buhari whom the Ekiti governor has been heckling since May.
“This is my first official visit to any APC state,” he said. “I am not in Osogbo to ask Aregbesola to help me beg as being speculated in some quarters. We are all Yoruba. Politics is like water. It can flow anywhere.”
He added that the Yoruba unity is greater than politics, citing the historic Ooni Ife’s visit to the Alaafin of Oyo recently as instructive in seeking the progress of the Oodua people.
Aregebesola, who still insisted Fayose should join a better party because the PDP cannot be revived to play the opposition, however agreed on the Yoruba unity.
“I stand by you on the unity of Yorubaland and our leaders should not put down the country,” he said, promising to support Fayose in whatever development stride he makes across the southwest.
