In a ceremonial send-off held at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State, 15 senior officers from the Nigerian Army’s Artillery Corps formally bowed out of service on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
The retirees included 11 Major Generals and four Brigadier Generals, marking the end of distinguished military careers.
The Nigerian Army announced the retirement via a post on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the significance of the occasion as the generals were honored for their years of service.
Major General James Myam (retd.), who spoke on behalf of the retirees during the pulling-out parade, reflected on their journeys in the Nigerian military, expressing deep gratitude and fulfillment.
In his speech, Maj Gen Myam attributed their collective successes to divine grace, acknowledging God’s protection throughout their military careers.

He extended heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the nation and thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, wishing him continued strength and wisdom in leading the Nigerian Army.
Reflecting on the early stages of their military careers, Maj Gen Myam recalled their induction into the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna as Officer Cadets.
He offered advice to serving officers, urging them to remain loyal to the Nigerian Constitution and the democratically elected government while maintaining high levels of vigilance and security consciousness.
The retiring general also expressed his gratitude to the families, spouses, friends, instructors, and mentors who provided support throughout their careers. Several senior military officers, both retired and serving, were in attendance, including former Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Alwali Kazir (retd.), underscoring the significance of the event.
This ceremony marks a symbolic passing of the baton in the Nigerian Army, as these retired officers leave behind a legacy of service and leadership in one of the country’s most critical military branches.
