Army undergoing reforms to change strategies – Army chief

 Nigerian Army Director of Operations and Training, Major General Ade Osun, on Thursday on behalf of Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai, visited soldiers at the army temporary base in Batsari Local Government which has now turned the hotbed of banditry and kidnapping activities in Katsina State

The visit was to enable the army chief to evaluate security situations and see the disposition of the troops in Katsina for necessary adjustments.

General Ade Osun told the Soldiers during lunch with them to boost their morales, that the army deemed it necessary to listen to the outcry of citizens disturbed by the security challenges like kidnapping and banditry and had come up with new gimmicks to safe guard Nigerians, including citizens of Katsina state.

He said ‘To this effect, the army is undergoing reforms to change its strategies in fighting banditry and kidnapping through a lot of ways. The special visit to the troop in Katsina state was also meant for the army officials to meet with the traditional and political institutions in the state to further identify ways to success’’.

In his contribution at the occasion, Sarki Ruma Katsina and District Head of Batsari, Alhaji Tukur Muazu Ruma, tasked the army to expedite action on tackling security challenges in the state saying the people want action in fighting against banditry and kidnapping. He assured the people that finally help is beginning to come their way

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Government has assured its readiness to give all the necessary support to the Nigerian Army and those who have shown interest in the fight against banditry, killings and kidnappings rocking the state.

Governor Aminu Masari gave the assurance on Thursday when he received the Chief of Army Staff delegation on a courtesy call at the Council Chambers of the General Muhammad Buhari Government House, Katsina state.

He hoped and prayed the visit will be historic in the sense that banditry, killings and kidnappings operating in the state will be drastically brought down.

Major General Lamidi Odeosun, Chief of Operations and Training, Army Headquarters who led the delegation, told the Governor that the Nigerian Army appreciates the personal and collective pains of the government and the people of the state with regards to their security situation that took a dramatic tone.
