After President Muhammadu Buhari suspended SGF David Babachir and the DG, Nigeria Intelligence Agency, Ayodele Oke, over the $50 million haul uncovered at Ikoyi in Lagos a cross section of Nigerians commenting on social media commend the decision.
While many think Babachir’s sack has been long over-due, some say Buhari can do more by hammering EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu, CoS Abba Kyari, and others already smeared with corruption allegations.
The sacked SGF has been investigated once for his role in cornering a grass-cutting contract at the Internally Displaced Persons camps in the northeast for his ICT company last year.
Although the Senate committee investigation indicted Babachir, Buhari ordered his own probe whose outcome cleared the SGF of any wrongdoing.
The committee headed by Kaduna Sen Sheu Sani was not cofortable with the clearance, and has described the current administration anti-corruption fight as cosmetic.
The recent discovery that challenged Aso Rock resolve to fight corruption was made by the EFCC when, following a tip-off, discovered neatly stacked local and foreign currency worth $50 million in an apartment owned by the wife of the NIA boss.
