Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to review its monetary and fiscal policies, stating they are not alleviating the severe economic challenges Nigerians face.

Speaking at the launch of the Nigeria Development Update in Abuja on Thursday, Mohammed called for a shift away from rigid economic strategies, highlighting the need for urgent reforms to address widespread hunger and frustration across the country.

The governor expressed deep concern over the plight of ordinary Nigerians, warning that the current economic hardship is creating a volatile environment, even placing political leaders like himself at risk of public backlash. “Even people in my position are threatened with being lynched by frustrated citizens,” he revealed.

Mohammed pointed to the insufficiency of federal funds in addressing the growing hunger, stressing that the macroeconomic policies currently in place, particularly those causing inflation, need a complete overhaul.

He emphasized that while state governments initially supported Tinubu’s reforms, the resulting inflation and declining purchasing power are exacerbating the crisis.

“What are you doing to reduce hunger? We must help the people cope,” the governor urged, calling on Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso to reconsider the ineffective policies.

With the economic pressure mounting, Mohammed’s remarks reflect the urgency for more effective government measures to ease the financial burden on Nigerians and improve their living conditions.
