As the northern governors were moving into Kaduna for an expanded regional meeting, bandits in the wake of the meeting unleashed horror on the state in sustained onslaught and violent mission.
The bandits in fresh attack on Sunday night at Madami village, Kaura Local Government Area, Kaduna State, slaughtered over 34 persons while seven other persons were identified to have sustained injuries, burning several houses.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan, admitted the onslaught, but noted that troops mobilized to the community confronted the bandits in a gun battle, compelling them to retreat.
Two suspects were said to be interrogated over the attack. The commissioner said that the troops also extinguished the fire in three of the burning houses, rescuing six persons from the fire.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai, condemning the attack, decried that it as an unspeakable display of wickedness, meriting the severest form of punishment.
The governor promised that the Kaduna State Government will be responsible for the cost of medical treatment of the injured victims’ treatment. He also directed the State Emergency Management Agency to conduct urgent assessment of the area for intervention of the state to provide support to the victims.
