Biden warns Russia attack on Ukraine will cause catastrophic loss of life

President Joe Biden of the US had on Wednesday warned that the military operations in Ukraine will cause “catastrophic loss of life.” He stated that the “world will hold Russia accountable” for the tragedy.

Biden in a statement after President Vladimir Putin of Russian announced the commencement of military operations in Ukraine, indicated that he would address the US public Thursday to outline the “consequences” for Russia, denoting  the military operations as “unprovoked and unjustified.”

Biden had a talk on the telephone with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine immediately explosions were heard in eastern Ukraine.

President Biden is joining a virtual, closed-door meeting of G7 leaders which include Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States at 9.00 am (1400 GMT) on Thursday. The meeting is in progress at the time of this report by National Daily.  The White House revealed that Biden’s broadcast to the nation would be relayed in the early afternoon in Washington.

President Putin of Russia announced in the early hours of Thursday the commencement of a “special military operation.”

US senators in both parties condemned Russia’s military operations in Ukraine, suggesting tough responses from the US and the Western allies.

Senator Chris Murphy of the Democrat, had declared:  “Tonight, the entire post-World War international order sits on a knife edge. If Putin does not pay a devastating price for this transgression, then our own security will soon be at risk.”

Senator Mark Warner, another Democrat, also declared: “President Biden has already imposed an initial tranche of sanctions, and it is now time for us to up the pain level for the Russian government.”

According to Warner, Russians “will pay a steep cost for Putin’s reckless ambition, in blood and in economic harm.”

Senator Mitt Romney of the Republican also cautioned of “the peril of again looking away from Putin’s tyranny”, suggesting “the harshest economic penalties”, including “expelling them from global institutions.”

Biden had in his statement declared: “the prayers of the entire world are with the people of Ukraine tonight as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces.

“President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering.

“Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. The world will hold Russia accountable.”
