The Hausas living in the south have their pet peeve against the Fulani, especially the nomads, just like many of their hosts in the region do.

Such mutual hatred snowballed in Sapele, Delta, August 30, and the consequence was gory.

At least ten people reportedly sustained varying degrees of injury in the clash at the popular Hausa Market along Benin-Warri Road, Amukpe, Sapele.

Shops got smashed, too, during the fight.

It started Sunday night after a Fulani herder allegedly stabbed a Hausa boy, drawing the ire of the House community.

In the retaliation that followed, the Hausa traders went to the Fulani commune and attacked them. Well, the community responded, too, in a fire-for-fire manner.

It took the police command to dispatch officers there to douse the small war.

But the escalating tension kicked the Sapele area into confusion.

There were gridlocks as motorists abandoned their cars for dear lives.
