Chief Bode George, an elder statesman and one of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has vehemently criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark for aligning themselves with the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
George expressed deep disappointment, warning that their defection weakens the opposition landscape and constitutes a betrayal of the PDP’s foundational legacy.
George voiced his concerns during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday.
He articulated profound disappointment over the emergence of the ADC-led coalition, which has been strategically positioned as a “mega opposition force” ahead of the crucial 2027 presidential election.
The veteran politician specifically condemned the actions of some PDP chieftains who, he noted, are attempting to maintain their membership within the PDP while simultaneously pursuing their political ambitions on a separate platform.
“You can’t serve two masters, as stated in the Holy Book. You either serve A or you serve B. But to say you are in A and B is a fallacy,” George asserted, emphasizing the perceived hypocrisy of such a political maneuver.
The ADC coalition has officially adopted the African Democratic Congress as its platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

Key figures like Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former governors Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola, and Nasir El-Rufai, as well as ex-Speaker Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, are reportedly part of this new alliance.
At the formal adoption of the ADC, former Senate President David Mark and former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola were announced as interim National Chairman and Secretary of the party, respectively.
While the coalition’s leaders, including David Mark, have stated their mission is to “rescue Nigeria” from an “authoritarian drift” and prevent a “one-party state,” critics like Bode George argue that such realignments fracture existing opposition structures rather than strengthening them.
