No fewer than eight terrorists were killed on Tuesday morning near a military checkpoint along Gubio highway in northern Borno state.
National Daily learnt that the incident took place about 10:30am killing eight occupants of a pickup van and injuring several others.
Confirming the incident through electronic message whatapps platform to National Daily, the Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sani Usman said, “it is true. But the casualty figure is eight. They attempted to detonate at a checkpoint but they were denied access by troops and as they turned back, it exploded killing all the occupants.”
Also confirming the development, the spokesperson of Borno state Police Command, DSP Victor Isuku, “There was an explosion today along Gubio Road just before the military check point.
According to “a preliminary report, a pick up van with nine persons onboard, emerged from a bush path to join the road to Rubio town when it exploded killing all the persons onboard.”
