The Borno State Government has tasked the media with sustaining public interest and working in line with the core values of the state.

The State Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar made the call when he visited Radio Ndarason International in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Tar said the unscheduled visit to the media station was part of efforts to ensure compliance with public policy.

The Radio Ndarason is an international Radio station that operates across the Lake Chad Basin with large audiences in Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

The Commissioner admonished the management team to “conduct an audience survey to gauge public perception and accessibility of the station, and adhere to the media policy of the Government in the conduct of its business.”

He added: “The Borno State Government is committed to media freedom, but not at the expense of our core values and public interest.”
