A suspected bomb explosion has struck Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara, on Monday, with many residents feared dead in what appears to be a renewed wave of violence in the area.

Details surrounding the incident remain sketchy as of the time of filing this report, but local sources confirmed that the explosion caused panic and destruction within the community.

While no group has officially claimed responsibility, residents suspect the use of an improvised explosive device (IED), raising fears of possible involvement by extremist elements, including the Boko Haram insurgents.

The latest development comes barely weeks after a deadly assault on Woro and nearby Nuku communities, where at least 75 persons were reportedly killed and several homes razed by suspected terrorists.

The earlier attack had drawn national attention and prompted swift intervention by the Federal Government. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu subsequently ordered the deployment of a military battalion to the troubled area to restore order and prevent further attacks.

As of press time, authorities have yet to release an official statement confirming the cause of the explosion or the number of casualties.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, were unsuccessful, leaving many questions unanswered.

The incident has heightened anxiety among residents of Kaiama and surrounding communities, many of whom are still recovering from the previous attack.

Security analysts warn that the recurrence of violence in the area could signal a troubling escalation, especially in parts of North Central Nigeria not traditionally associated with insurgent activities.

As rescue efforts are expected to begin, residents are calling on security agencies to intensify surveillance and provide immediate protection to prevent further loss of lives.

More details are expected as authorities respond to the situation.
