Former Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham has reacted to Harry Kane’s transfer intent after club accepted his bid.

The National Daily newspaper reports that Tottenham have finally accepted a bid for Kane worth over €100million. The bid is coming from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich who have persisted on bringing the striker to Allianz Arena.

It is however understood that the England captain is yet to decide on his move to Bayern.

Sheringham while reacting to the development, feels that it makes little sense for Kane to join Bayern.

‘You have to win trophies [as a player] – that’s what it’s all about and if those personal accolades come along as well then fantastic,’ he told the Sky Bet Fan Hope Survey. ‘Having said that, going to Bayern Munich is not the answer.

‘They’ve won 13 titles on the spin so it’s not as if he’s going to change anything. He might win the Champions League there, but I really don’t see the logic in Harry wanting to go Bayern Munich.

‘Everyone knows he is in the last year [of his contract], Bayern Munich are making these big bids, Kane hasn’t said ‘I don’t want to go there’ so they must have spoken to him behind the scenes to say, ‘if we bid for you, will you come?’

‘I would expect that deal to happen before the start of the season, otherwise Harry would have squashed it from his side, and I don’t understand why that hasn’t happened.’

Sheringham feels that Kane’s potential move to Bayern makes little sense

Bayern identified Kane as their top transfer target during this summer’s window, but have struggled to agree terms with Spurs.

And while Tottenham are understandably reluctant to part with their talismanic forward, talks over a new contract have stalled. The development has forced chairman Daniel Levy to open the door to his departure.

The National Daily newspaper understands from the claim by The Athletic that Bayern have now finally reached an agreement with Tottenham to sign the England star, who is closing in on Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals record.

But Kane still needs to decide on terminating his 19-year association with Spurs. The striker also still has the opportunity to stay put and look to help the club win silverware under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

It is said that Kane is enjoying life under the new boss and focused on the new Premier League season.

Kane reportedly wanted his future resolved before Tottenham’s opening fixture against Brentford on Sunday.
