Police has sealed the Plateau State House of Assembly following reports of angry protest bid to storm the Assembly Monday morning, demanding the impeachment of the Governor, Simon Lalong.

Recall that our correspondent had earlier reported that the Plateau State House of Assembly had given Lalong two weeks to fish out the killers of Yelwa Zangam community behind University of Jos or may be forced to comply with the request of citizens calling for his impeachment.

However this morning, tension mounted at the Assembly, as presence of heavy joint security taskforce, were noticed at its premises.

House speaker Abok Ayuba, had on a TV programme earlier in the morning alleged that the executive arm of Government has directed the sealing of the House.

The House clerk Mr. Ponven Wuyep, who also spoke to our correspondent on telephone, said he was informed by the House OC Police that joint security taskforce have been deployed.

“The OC Police in the House woke me up early morning, telling me that the police headquarters in Jos have instructed him to seek for reinforcement, but he latter told me that even before he did that, a heavy joint security taskforce has been deployed to the House.”

“I am on my way to the office to see things for my self”, the House Clerk said.

Reacting to the incident, Governor Simon Lalong denied the report that he sent security to seal up the Assembly premises.

In a statement sent to our correspondent, by the State Commissioner of Information Dan Manjang, Lalong said he is not aware of the sealing of the Assembly Complex.

According to Lalong: “The attention of the Plateau State Government has been drawn to allegations made by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abok Nuhu Ayuba who appeared on Channels TV programme on Monday 30th August claiming that the Assembly Complex has been sealed.

“This false allegation has further been circulated on social media associating the Executive arm of Government and the Governor as being behind it.

“We wish to make it abundantly clear that the Executive arm of Government and the Governor is not aware or behind the purported sealing of the House as it does not dabble into the affairs of another independent arm of Government”, the statement reads in part.
