Several passengers sustained injuries on Monday after an Abuja-bound train travelling to Kaduna derailed following a collision along the rail corridor.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident, stating that the train encountered a problem near the Asham area during the journey.
According to him, no fatalities had been recorded as of the time of filing this report. He added that injured passengers were promptly evacuated and transported back to Idu Railway Station for urgent medical treatment.

Opeifa said the corporation had commenced a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment and collision.
“It is confirmed that our Abuja–Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Passengers were injured while an investigation is ongoing into the exact cause of the incident,” he said.
Emergency response teams were deployed to the scene to secure the area and assist passengers, while railway officials worked to restore normal operations along the route.
The Abuja–Kaduna rail line is one of Nigeria’s busiest passenger corridors, frequently used by commuters as a safer alternative to road travel between the Federal Capital Territory and the northern city. Authorities have assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
