Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a. Sunday Igboho on Wednesday recorded first victory and hope of freedom as the 12 aides arrested at his residence by the Department of Security Service (DSS) were granted bail by the court sitting in Abuja.
The Federal High Court in Abuja presided by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, granted bail to 8 of the 12 applicants, who were admitted to bail in the sum of N5 million each with 2 sureties in like sum who must be resident in the FCT.
The other 4 of the applicants whom the federal government had opposed to their bail application were admitted to bail in the sum of N10 million each with 2 sureties in like sum, who must be civil servants.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu in his judgement stated that no charge has been preferred against the applicants who have been in the custody of the respondent, (the DSS) since 2nd July.
The court noted that “every person shall be entitled to personal liberty and when a person is accused of an offense or is brought before the court, such person is entitled to bail”.
The DSS had only this Wednesday brought the 12 detainees to court on the order of the court last Monday.
The Wednesday judgement is expected to make a positive contribution to the want of evidence in the prosecution of Sunday Igboho who is facing trial in Benin Republic where he was arrested in July.
