A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Frederick Agbedi, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate over efforts toward the return of the Atata Maginal Field to the rightful owners.

The said oil field had been subject of dispute between investors and critical stakeholders, prompting an investigation by relevant committees of the Senate in response to petitions seeking redress.

In response to the resolution, Agbedi who represents the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State during a chat with journalists in Abuja, also stressed the need for the full implementation of the Senate’s resolution.

“I wish to on behalf of my people convey our sincere commendation to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Petitions and Specifically the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, and the entire Senate for standing up to what is right and restoring hope as the Senate of the people.

“The issue of Atata Maginal Field dispute was a sore narrative in the history of the Oil Industry in Nigeria. Hence, we are so happy that thorough investigation has exposed the ills of a demonic deal.

“It is also important to thank Mr. President, Alhaji Muhammad Buhari , GCFR and the Governor of Bayelsa State for their unrelenting efforts in ensuring that justice was served. This is because an injustice to Bayelsa State, the Jerusalem of Ijaw is an injustice to Ijaw Nation and hence, all stood in defence of the restoration of the Field.

“This commendation is borne out of my sincere conviction and sincere belief that the decision is one that is just, patriotic, selfless, equitable and in accordance with good conscience.

“I wish to urge that the perpetrators of this act be brought to justice through the law enforcement and anticorruption agencies as a way of strengthening our institutions”, he stated.
