A nine-month-old Buhari Muhammad, resident of Dafe community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger, whose step-mother severed his genital in 2016, has successfully undergone first corrective surgery at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Bida, Niger.
National Daily gathered that the toddler was operated upon by four neurologists and was responding well to treatment.
Mrs Mariam Kolo, the Director-General of the State Child Rights Protection Agency, disclosed on Friday in Minna that several tests would be carried out to prepare him for the next phase of operation.
Kolo reiterated that the surgery was part of other series of operations that the boy is expected to undergo to effectively treat him to enable his organ function optimally.
National Daily gathered that the 17-year-old step mother, Bara’atu Muhammad, who had confessed to the crime said she took the action because she was jealous and also wanted to retaliate the insult she was always getting from the victim’s mother.
Muhammad’s genital was cut off in June 2016 by his Bara’atu Muhammad, when the victim was barely a month old in their resident at Dafe community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger.
Meanwhile, Bara’atu Muhammad is being remanded in Minna prison pending the conclusion of investigations.
Police source added that “Under the Police Criminal Law, the suspect when convicted could face hanging.
