Daniel Bwala, the spokesperson on policy communication for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has accused international news network Al Jazeera of selectively editing his recent interview on the programme Head to Head, hosted by Mehdi Hasan, claiming that the edits created a misleading narrative that sparked widespread online criticism.

Bwala stated that the interview, which was recorded on February 11, 2026, lasted approximately one hour and twenty minutes. However, the version released on March 5 ran for only 49 minutes, with nearly 20 minutes of content removed.

He further alleged that an additional eight-minute condensed version was later produced, which combined different segments in a way that emphasized certain remarks while omitting key context, potentially distorting his statements.

According to Bwala, Al Jazeera had initially indicated that the full interview would air on television before being made available online. The network later cited breaking developments involving Israel, Iran, and the United States as the reason for not broadcasting it.

In response to criticism circulating on social media, Bwala maintained that he had addressed all questions during the session and did not deny any issues raised. Nonetheless, he expressed regret over accepting the invitation, noting that he had expected the discussion to focus on government policies rather than his personal political history.

Bwala confirmed that he has formally written to Al Jazeera demanding a public apology. He warned that should the network fail to comply, he may pursue legal action in a court in England. He also emphasized that releasing the full interview is essential to give the public proper context and prevent misinterpretation of his remarks.

The controversy has sparked debate over media ethics, selective editing, and the responsibility of global news networks in accurately presenting political interviews.
