CAF set for quarter-final draws in Cairo as road to continental finals takes shape

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will on Tuesday conduct the quarter-final draws for this season’s CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) in Cairo, Egypt.

According to CAF, the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final draw will begin at 13:00 Cairo time (11:00 GMT), while the CAF Champions League quarter-final draw will follow at 14:00 Cairo time (12:00 GMT). Both events will be broadcast live on CAF’s official YouTube channel, CAF TV.

The draws will not only determine the quarter-final fixtures but also map out the path to the finals in both competitions, including potential semi-final matchups.

Eight clubs have secured their places in the last eight of Africa’s premier club competition. They are: Pyramids FC (Egypt); RS Berkane (Morocco); Al Ahly SC (Egypt); AS FAR (Morocco); Al Hilal Omdurman (Sudan);Mamelodi Sundowns F.C. (South Africa); Stade Malien (Mali); Espérance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia)

The line-up features a blend of former champions and emerging contenders, with record title holders Al Ahly once again aiming to assert their continental dominance.

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Tunisia’s Espérance are also expected to pose significant threats, given their pedigree and experience at this stage of the competition.

In Africa’s second-tier club competition, the following teams have advanced to the quarter-finals: USM Alger (Algeria); Olympique Club de Safi (Morocco); Wydad AC (Morocco); AS Maniema Union (DR Congo); CR Belouizdad (Algeria); AS Otoho (Congo); Zamalek SC (Egypt); Al Masry SC (Egypt)

With multiple former continental champions and regional heavyweights in the mix, the Confederation Cup draw is also expected to produce high-profile clashes.

Tuesday’s ceremony in Cairo will officially set the stage for what promises to be a thrilling knockout phase across both tournaments, as clubs from North, West, Central, East, and Southern Africa vie for continental supremacy.
