The House of Representatives has been thrown into pandemonium during the Tuesday plenary over demand for the release of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El Zakzaky, whose continued detention since 2016 has been a source of violent uprising in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
National Dailylearned that members of the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly are embroiled in rowdy session Tuesday afternoon over the demand by the Kaduna State Government for the freedom of the Shi’ite Muslims leader, El Zakzaky in compliance with a court judgment which granted him bail.
IMN members have sustained persistent protests in Abuja and have been resisting security operatives from intimidating or hindering their protests. The Shi’ites Muslims during the Monday protest had confrontation with the Police in Abuja after the attempted invasion of the National Assembly a fortnight ago. The Monday clash degenerated into the death of a Deputy Inspector of Police in charge of Operation in the FCT, and a Corp member attached to Channels Television. Both victims died of gun wounds sustained from the clash.
Many others were also said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.
