Pastor Moses Akinola of Christ Kingdom Church, Ilorin, says social media campaign will protect women from discrimination and abuse; and will help promote their value in the country.
Akinola, who made the suggestion in Ilorin on Friday, in an interview with Newsmen, said that women deserved special treatment and were not to be maltreated.
According to him, social media campaigns will help sensitize the public to change their prejudice towards women in society.
“Women are seen as ‘second class citizens and not appreciated by most African men, thereby subjecting them to all forms of abuse and maltreatment.
“The social media will help change their mentality and open their eyes to see the special creatures women are.
“Women are not a liability, they are a special creation from God and they have what it takes to make the society better if given the opportunity. So discrimination and abuse against women should stop.
“Women are gold, let us give them a chance by promoting their importance to the society, and that can be done through social media campaigns.
The cleric also called on government at all levels, the media, NGOs, and private individuals, to join the campaign on ‘Women are important, to help change the narrative about women.
