A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has joined in the fight against electricity thieves by fencing a transformer located in her community to prevent vandals from carting away energy installations.

The Corps member said the effort is part of her community development service.

A native of Akwa Ibom, Miss Inemesit Hope said even though the facility belongs to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company, the public are the direct beneficiaries.

“We know that the facility belongs to the utility company but we are the end beneficiary of the services provided by the facility. Therefore,  we should take ownership of it by protecting it for us to continue benefiting from its services”, she said in a statement sent to our correspondent by the Spokesman of the energy Company, Dr Friday Adakole Elijah.

Speaking during a commendation visit hosted by the Managing Director, JED, Engr Abdul Bello Mohammed Hope said she has a handful of projects to showcase before she rounds up her service year.

Thrilled by the effort of the young corper, the Jos DisCo boss narrated how he served in the Southeast, Imo State, a journey he never wanted to embark on because of his negative impression about the Igbos.

He said however, Imo State happened to be one of his best experiences in life as the people are very hospitable.

“My impression about the people changed after staying there for my service year he said”.

Commending Hope for a Job well done, Mohammed said the activities of vandals have hampered the services of the company.

“You have added value to your host community by protecting the distribution transformer from vandalism. We want to sincerely thank you for this great gesture. We urge you to continue in this stead”, he said.

Our correspondent reports that the Corper was honoured with a letter of commendation, a plaque, and a cash award.
