Court sacks Gov. Buni, APC national caretaker committee

Following scores of lawsuit against Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and other members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, the court finally decided September 1 one the legality of the office.

A Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba restrained the governor and the others from parading themselves as chairman and members of the APC CECPC until the determination of a substantive suit before the court.

Justice Onome Marshal Umukoro, who presided over the matter, also stopped the Party’s scheduled LG Congress in Delta State slated for September 4, 2021.

Olorogun Elvis Ayomanor, who is the APC deputy chairman in the state had led other officials of the party in the state to the court, challenging the outcome of the ward congress in the state.

The Supreme Court rules earlier the APC caretaker committee and its chairman are illegal, as no one according to the Nigerian constitution should occupy two elective offices at a time.

The legal minds like Labour Minister (state) Festus Keyamo, V.P Yemi Osinbajo, and others in the party warned of torrents of legal suits that might follow.

But Justice Minister Abubakar Malami and Dep Senate President Ovie Omo Agege insisted there was no law breached.

Among others suits still in court is the PDP’s, asking the court to sack Buni as governor, so he can focus his APC national chairmanship.
